The euro banknotes are set for a significant transformation. For the first time since their introduction, the European Central Bank (ECB) is engaging the public in selecting the design for the new series. The Ten Finalist Designs

Six historical figures are featured across the banknotes, each representing a different denomination. The selected personalities include Maria Callas for the 5 euro note, Ludwig van Beethoven for the 10 euro, Marie Skłodowska Curie for the 20 euro, Miguel de Cervantes for the 50 euro, Leonardo da Vinci for the 100 euro, and Bertha von Suttner for the 200 euro. These figures embody the cultural richness and intellectual heritage of Europe.
Rivers and Birds
Complementing the cultural icons, six bird species are depicted, each symbolizing different European landscapes. The birds range from the picchio muraiolo for the 5 euro note to the sula bassana for the 200 euro note. This theme highlights the continent’s biodiversity and the importance of environmental conservation.
How to Participate in the Vote
Participating in the vote is straightforward. Visit the dedicated page on the ECB’s website, review the ten finalist designs, and select your favorites. The public’s input will be combined with the results of an independent survey conducted among a representative sample of euro area residents. The Governing Council of the ECB will make the final decision by the end of 2026.
