The NX7 SUV’s Position in the Market

The NX7 SUV is expected to be positioned below the NX8, offering a more compact and sportier appearance. This suggests that the NX7 will target the mid-size SUV segment, providing consumers with a more affordable option within the N series. The NX7 is likely to offer both battery electric and extended-range powertrain options, catering to a broader range of preferences.

For reference, the NX8, launched on April 8, 2026, has an official price range of 159,900 yuan ($23,550) to 209,900 yuan. The NX8 is built on an 800-volt silicon carbide platform and uses lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CATL, supporting 5C ultra-fast charging. The NX7 is expected to carry a lower price point, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

The Growth of Dongfeng Nissan’s N Series

The N series has seen remarkable growth since its inception. In June 2026, the N series recorded retail sales of 9,316 units, representing a 50.53% year-on-year increase. This growth highlights the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the Chinese market. The N series currently includes the N7 battery electric sedan, the N6 plug-in hybrid sedan, and the NX8 SUV.

With the addition of the NX7, Dongfeng Nissan will have two models in each of the new energy sedan and SUV segments. This expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to diversifying its product offerings and meeting the evolving needs of consumers. The N series has recorded cumulative retail sales of 86,359 units since deliveries began in April 2026, indicating a strong market presence.

Looking ahead, Dongfeng Nissan is also exploring opportunities for export. The company is certifying vehicles with Canadian regulators, and its distributor has indicated that the first two models may be launched next year. This international expansion reflects the growing global interest in electric vehicles and the competitive pricing of EVs manufactured in China.
