In the heart of Lisbon’s dynamic Anjos district, a 19th-century façade conceals a contemporary residential masterpiece known as Pátio do Mercador. Completed in 2026Pátio do Mercador is the result of a collaborative effort between Future Architecture Thinking and Studio Cavalcanti. The project features seven buildings arranged around a central open-air courtyard, forming a sheltered enclave that is within walking distance of Lisbon’s vibrant neighborhoods of Graça, Intendente, and Avenida da Liberdade.
Architectural Design and Layout
The compound comprises 12 self-contained dwellings spread across 812 square metres. These dwellings include studios, apartments, and duplex houses, each with its own unique layout. The design incorporates vaulted ceilingsmezzanine levelsskylightsand private patiosoffering a variety of living experiences.
Large glazed openings bring natural daylight deep into the rooms, creating an open and airy atmosphere. Several units feature their own outdoor areas, while others offer views across the rooftops of the surrounding neighborhood. The interiors boast a restrained palette of oak, microcement, and stone, with oak shelving and cabinetry, composite flooring, and Dekton worktops adding to the modern aesthetic.
