The year 2026 is proving to be a landmark year for the global design community, with several prestigious awards showcasing the best in innovation and sustainability. From Shanghai to Seoul, and across the visitor attractions industry, these competitions are not just recognizing outstanding work but also fostering international collaboration and addressing critical global challenges.

Design has always been a powerful tool for change, and these awards highlight how creativity can empower industries, improve urban services, and pioneer sustainable solutions. Whether it’s through cutting-edge technology, cultural heritage, or human-centered approaches, the designs being celebrated are making a tangible impact on society and the environment.

Shanghai Design 100+: A Global Stage for Excellence

The Shanghai Design 100+ Award, initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Government and supported by UNESCO, is open for international submissions. This prestigious award aims to showcase outstanding design works across various fields, including product, fashion, architecture, digital multimedia, service/brand, visual, and concept design. The competition is free to enter, encouraging participation from design companies, studios, institutions, and individual designers worldwide.

Participants have until June 30, 2026to submit their work through the official website or via email. The award process involves a team of domestic and international experts who will shortlist 300 projects, from which 100 will be selected. Four Grand Prizes, totaling 2 million RMB, will be awarded in categories such as AI Innovation Design, Cultural & Creative Design, Green and Sustainable Design, and Human-Centered Design. Winners will receive certificates, trophies, exhibition opportunities, and promotional support, along with prioritized services for industrialization and commercial needs.

Seoul Design Award 2026: Redesigning Life After Crisis

The Seoul Design Award 2026 is making its final call for entries, focusing on projects that address daily human survival, community infrastructure, and ecological recovery amidst modern disasters. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Design Foundation, this award is the world’s only public design competition dedicated exclusively to sustainable daily life. It accepts works in Product, Visual, Digital/AI, Spatial/System, and Service/Social innovation categories.

Submissions are categorized into the Main Award for market-ready projects, the Young Designer Award for speculative concepts, and the ESG Design Impact Award for corporate contributions to sustainable systems. Evaluations are rooted in four critical focus areas aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Health & Peace, Equal Opportunities, Energy & Environment, and Cities & Communities. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2026.

Past winners of the Seoul Design Award have demonstrated the scalability and long-term impact of their projects. For instance, the 2026 Grand Prize winner, Jaza Energy Hubs, introduced modular solar charging stations to rural African communities, replacing hazardous kerosene and diesel. The project also empowered local women by providing them with leadership roles and stable income, extending social and economic resilience to the wider community.

Blooloop Innovation Awards 2026: Recognizing Visitor Attraction Excellence

The Blooloop Innovation Awards 2026presented with AREA15, are now open for entries. In its sixth year, this competition recognizes the most innovative work within the global visitor attractions industry. Winners will be announced at The Festival of Innovation, an online event scheduled for January 2027. The awards showcase extraordinary creativity, imagination, and dynamism that drive the attractions business.

Entries are welcome from any sector, including state-of-the-art technology, beautifully designed exhibitions, next-generation rides, and sustainable initiatives. The competition features various categories such as Accessibility, Creative Technology, Exhibit, Immersive Attraction, Sustainability, and more. Participants can submit their entries through the award entry platform, with an early bird discount available until July 26, 2026and a final entry deadline of September 28, 2026.
