In the heart of Venice, a unique architectural gem has emerged, blending the timeless appeal of midcentury design with the free-spirited essence of bohemian living. This extraordinary residence, crafted by director and producer Jesse Bochco and his wife, production and interior designer Rae Bochco, is now on the market for $14.95 million.

The Bochcos began their journey around 15 years ago, envisioning a home that would pay homage to the celebrated Los Angeles architect Ray Kappe. Their collaboration with architect Alexander Liberman of AML Studio resulted in a residence that embodies honesty in materials, simple forms, and harmonious indoor-outdoor spaces.

The Vision Behind the Design

The couple’s goal was to create a home that felt connected to both the earth and the vibrant Venice neighborhood. “This house is more of a tribute to classic midcentury than a slavish reproduction,” Jesse Bochco shared. Rae added, “All the decisions we made revolved around light and warmth.”

The residence spans approximately 6,400 square feetfeaturing five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, and a powder room. The U-shaped, two-story dwelling showcases wide-plank oak and concrete aggregate floors with brass inlays, custom wood doors and windows, and expansive walls of glass. A detached one-bedroom, one-bath guest/pool house adds to the property’s allure.

A Journey of Transformation

The property’s transformation began in 2011 when Barbara Bosson acquired the first lot for $1.25 million. The following year, Jesse and his then-wife Kate Danson took ownership, with Danson later relinquishing her spousal rights. Jesse then acquired the adjacent lot for $2.72 millioncompleting the double-lot footprint that would become the Bochcos’ dream home.

Completed in 2026, the residence is crafted from Western red cedar cladding and vertical board-formed concrete. The warm, expansive family home features a covered front porch opening into a double-height foyer, which flows to a sunken living room anchored by a striking floor-to-ceiling fireplace. The elegant formal dining room, media room with a wet bar, and sleek kitchen with a Lacanche range and eat-in island are just a few of the highlights.

Outdoor Oasis

The Stefan Hammerschimdt-designed grounds are a haven of drought-tolerant plantings, alfresco lounging and dining spaces, a built-in barbecue, and a pool and spa clad in Ann Sacks Zellige tile. A cedar-shaded pergola and the guest/pool house with a kitchen complete the outdoor amenities. The property also includes an attached three-car garage.

Jesse Bochco, known for his work on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Murder in the Firsthas a rich history in television production. The Bochcos previously owned a 1950s Ray Kappe-designed home in Pacific Palisades, which they sold in 2012 for $3.4 million to Photoshop creator Thomas Knoll.

The Venice residence, listed by Layla Bodet of Sotheby’s International RealtyPacific Palisades Brokerage, offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of architectural history in one of Los Angeles’ most desirable neighborhoods.
